So, with a birthday approaching and the holidays not so far away, I was considering purchasing myself a Kindle DX from Amazon, and a second one as a gift.
So, as I began researching the product, I was taken aback by the number of bad reviews of the new Kindle DX. I was equally shocked to learn that the product seems incredibly fragile and breaks when used with the Amazon-designed leather cover (which apparently frequently cracks the screen).
Worse, Amazon seems to disclaim any degree of meaningful support for this product. This is surprising. I would think a better business model would be to rather generously replace defective – or even damaged – devices since it is clear that Amazon’s ongoing income stream is the purchase of books to read on the device, not the device itself.
I have always been happy with the interactions with Amazon. So, I am a little sad to have read so many disappointing reviews of the product. The sentiment seems to be the model is great, but the device itself is of poor quality.
After this research, I have to say I think I’ll take a pass on the Kindle for the time-being. Off to come up with other gift ideas. Sorry, Amazon.
