When Did We Become Pussies?
New Yorkers don’t want the terror trials of various 9/11 defendants – including Khalid Sheikh Mohammed – in New York City. The White House is seeming to backtrack from having them in Manhattan.
“It would be an inconvenience at the least, and probably that’s too mild a word for people that live in the neighborhood and businesses in the neighborhood,” Bloomberg told reporters. ”There are places that would be less expensive for the taxpayers and less disruptive for New York City.”
Inconvenient? Inconvenient “at the least”? Wow, I bet the people who don’t want the trials near them (the not-in-my-back-yarders) are probably the same ones who have no problem sending their neighbors’ kids to Iraq or Afghanistan. By contrast, if al-Qaeda had captured a U.S. president or a high-ranking military officer, al-Qaeda supporters would likely kill each other for the privilege of having the “infidel” tortured in their neighborhood.
But, not in America. Americans are pussies. Americans like to talk about freedom, but very few are actually willing to make any sacrifice for it. New Yorkers apparently cannot even be inconvenienced.
On the other hand, let’s hear it for NewBurgh, NY. Its mayor has written to the White House inviting the federal
government to hold the trial in Newburgh.
I guess not all of us are wusses.
